Weekly Lessons

Alright, so the past two weeks you, the students, have spoken and have been very clear of what you are seeking in God, life and the youth ministry. So we have come to this point where we are all ON THE SAME PAGE! We are in this together and I believe that each one of us are beginning to see that.

Last week, you were asked, "Where do we go? What do we do from here?" And everyone of us know where to go...

   But first, we need to regroup and look at what scripture has to say on this matter;

Mark 12:28-31
"One of the scribes approached. When he heard them debating and saw that Jesus answered them well, he asked Him, 'Which commandment is the most important of all?'
'This is the most important,' Jesus answered: 'Listen, Israel! The Lord our God, the Lord is One. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second is: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.'"

It is interesting that the teacher of the law (the scribe) who has taught the ten commandments his whole life is quizing Jesus on which ones are the most important. "Should not all of them be of equal importance?"

But whatever the reason might be, the order of these two commandments are so distinctively important. Love God with every inch of your being and then love others in the same.

To fill the need that we are all reaching for (being accepted, cliques, etc.), it is vital to focus first on God. Love Him completely, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Have your worship be wholesome in the Lord. Lean only unto Him. The other will fall into place.

1 John 4:7-8; 11-12
"Dear friends, let us love one another, because love is from God, and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love...if God loved us in this way, we also must love one another. No one has ever seen God. If we love one another, God remains in us and His love is perfected in us."

xhristos phoreo
Album: Rain Down (EP)
2008
So I have to say, despite the bias that I might have personal towards Xhristos Phoreo being that I used to be a part of the band when it was first starting, the release of their first album is an absolute must for all to have ($3.96).

Kris Schmitt, founder of xhristos phoreo and musical genius, will be joining us on December 5th - 7th as we travel to Rockin' C Ranch for our Fall Retreat. There he will lead all of us through a memorial worshipful experience.

There is not much more to say except for, "Whoa! Awesome!" So I recommend that everyone must browse xp's MySpace page and download the tracks. It is something that you will listen to 17 times in a row before turning it off to go to bed.

Get to know your youth director...

All the way from Odessa, TX, home of the Permian Panthers (and Fighting Bronchos), I was born and raised in the small Oil Field town attending Odessa High School. Once graduating, I was accepted into Lubbock Christian University in Lubbock, TX where I obtained a Youth and Family Ministry Degree.

While enrolled, I interned at Indiana Baptist as a Jr. High Youth Ministry Intern and First Church of the Nazarene as the Jr. High Youth Ministry Intern. Then was asked to help plant a new mission church of First Church of the Nazarene called The Refuge as a Youth Pastor and Worship Leader.

Upon graduating from Lubbock Christian University, I moved to Dallas, TX to begin my work on a Masters in Theological Studies at University of Dallas in Irving. I, also, began working as the Director of Youth and Family Ministry at Schreiber Memorial United Methodist Church in the North Dallas area.

While at Lubbock Christian University, I met Cassie Wood which years later would sweep me off my feet and become my now wife, married on June 21st, 2008. Currently, I am the Director of Youth Ministry at First United Methodist Church in Rowlett.
